NutraSweet in Your Diet
Weight Gain / Weight Loss
NutraSweet is appropriate for use as part of a weight control program. Since, when used in foods, NutraSweet is lower in calories when compared to sugar, it can be used as a valuable product in a sensible weight loss program, while satisfying your sweet tooth. It is possible that by providing some sweetness, NutraSweet may improve dietary compliance.
NutraSweet does not cause weight loss/gain, water retention, hunger or a craving for sweets.
No product on the market today, by itself, causes people to lose weight. Weight loss is related to many factors -- diet, exercise, heredity etc. Because of the intense sweetness of NutraSweet, products containing NutraSweet are often lower in calories than the same type of product made with sugar or syrups. Use of NutraSweet products can only aid the serious dieter in his/her own efforts to control weight.
Pregnancy
A woman who is comfortable eating peaches, bananas or hamburgers or drinking
milk when she's pregnant can be just as comfortable with NutraSweet because the body treats the components in NutraSweet in the same way it treats these components when they come from everyday foods. There's no difference.
Scores of studies with children, men and women, including women of childbearing age and breastfeeding women have been conducted. As far as your body's concerned, what is in NutraSweet could just as well have come from peaches or pears.
Research tells us that, while the majority of obstetricians and gynecologists are comfortable with their patients' use of sweetened with NutraSweet products, a few still recommend avoidance. This is despite the support of aspartame by major health organizations and its approval by regulatory agencies around the world for the general population, including pregnant and breastfeeding women.
We continue to work closely with health care professionals to ensure they have the most up-to-date information on the overwhelming body of scientific evidence
that confirms the safety of aspartame.
Lactation
A mother who is breastfeeding can choose NutraSweet with confidence. The body treats the components in NutraSweet in the same way it treats them when they come from common everyday foods, such as meat, milk, fruits and vegetables.
Studies have been conducted in lactating women. The results demonstrated that the consumption of NutraSweet by the mother would not meaningfully affect the overall amino acid intake of the infant.
If a woman were to drink three 6-packs of soda with NutraSweet all at once (and that's 15 times more than heavy-users typically consume in a day), the levels of ingredients in her breast milk derived from NutraSweet would be no higher than if she had eaten a typical meal with protein in it.
